Heat is a very important resource to have when you are under intense weather conditions and temperatures that bring coldness into the air. Nothing is worse than having to endure cold temperatures without any way to warm up. It could even lead to hypothermia, which is when your body temperature falls too far below its normal temperature. Once this happens, it could ultimately lead to death or sickness which you obviously won’t want to happen. Since you will be in a survival type situation then you won’t be able to call 9-1-1 or go to the hospital to get help. Therefore, always pack away supplies that can generate heat for you. That way you can stay warm and increase your chances of maintaining your health during this rough experience.

The easiest and most affordable way to generate heat is through a pack of matches. If you are indoors then you can just light up paper or wood in a fireplace with your matches. If you are outside then build a campfire using wood from the trees in a clear location. It is a good idea to buy at least twenty sets of matches because you don’t know how long you will be without your modern technological conveniences. Matches are very cheap to purchase, so you could store away dozens of boxes that you could survive on for months. But if you are someone who prefers the more sophisticated approach to starting fires then you can go with a good old fashioned lighter. A lighter contains fluid called butane, which is highly flammable, but will last for a long time. There are many cheap disposable lighters that are sold in retail stores. You will even find packages of them sold in sets, like “five lighters for $3.” So if you were to store away many sealed packages of lighters then you would be ready to survive just fine.

Heating is not only good for staying warm though. You also have to think about how you will cook your food or possibly even signal for help if you are stranded somewhere. Whether you have a match or lighter, they can be used to start a fire that can help you in both of these situations. Let’s say you are stuck in the woods and you capture a rabbit that you want to cook before you eat. Just start a campfire with your heating source and then roast the rabbit over the fire. This is what human beings did to eat for thousands of years. Of course, they didn’t have matches or lighters at the time. They had to generate fire from rubbing two sticks together, which is not recommended for modern day people to try because they wouldn’t have the patience or temperament to see it through.
